Typical Hours: 08:00 – 23:00 followed by a sleep-in

The Opportunity

Joneshouse Recruitment is currently recruiting for an experienced Deputy Manager to join a Children’s Residential Home in Derby supporting young people with emotional and behavioural needs.

This role offers an excellent opportunity to work alongside the Registered Manager and senior leadership team, supporting the day-to-day running of the home while ensuring high standards of care and safeguarding.

The successful candidate will help lead the staff team, promote positive outcomes for young people, and ensure the home operates in line with Children’s Homes (England) Regulations 2015 and Ofsted Quality Standards.


About the Role

As Deputy Manager, you will support the Registered Manager in the effective leadership and operational management of the children’s home.

You will help maintain high standards of care, support staff development, and ensure the service provides a safe, structured, and nurturing environment for young people.

You will also take responsibility for the home when the Registered Manager is unavailable, ensuring continuity of leadership and compliance with regulatory requirements.


Key Responsibilities

Service Delivery

  • Ensure the home operates in line with the Statement of Purpose, Quality Standards, and Children’s Homes Regulations

  • Maintain high standards of safeguarding, care, and wellbeing for young people

  • Support the development and review of individual care plans to promote positive outcomes

  • Encourage young people’s participation, independence, and community integration

  • Maintain a safe, supportive, and compliant home environment

Staff Leadership

  • Support the Registered Manager in the day-to-day running of the home

  • Lead, motivate, and support the residential care team

  • Promote a positive team culture and effective multi-agency collaboration

Training & Supervision

  • Provide regular supervision, appraisals, and professional development for staff

  • Identify training needs and support staff in delivering effective care and behaviour management

Resource Management

  • Support the monitoring of service budgets and expenditure

  • Ensure appropriate staffing levels and safe working practices

  • Maintain effective use of resources and facilities within the home


Requirements

To be considered for this role, you should have:

Qualifications

  • Level 3 Diploma in Children and Young People’s Workforce (or equivalent)

Experience

  • Minimum 4 years’ experience working in children’s residential care

  • At least 2 years’ experience in a senior or management role within a children’s home

Knowledge

  • Strong understanding of Children’s Homes (England) Regulations 2015, safeguarding legislation, and Ofsted frameworks

Skills

  • Ability to lead, motivate, and develop staff teams

  • Strong communication, organisational, and problem-solving skills

  • Ability to manage workload and resources effectively

  • Resilience and the ability to remain calm in challenging or crisis situations
