About the Role
Joneshouse Recruitment is proud to be recruiting for an experienced and inspirational Headteacher to lead a specialist SEND school based in Birmingham.
The successful Headteacher will act as the lead professional and role model for the school community, ensuring exceptional standards of education, safeguarding, wellbeing, and positive pupil outcomes. The school offers a structured and nurturing environment, using tailored strategies such as sensory integration, executive functioning support, and social skills development to help pupils thrive.
Purpose of the Role
The Headteacher is responsible for providing visionary leadership, driving continuous improvement, and ensuring the delivery of high-quality education, safeguarding, and wellbeing for pupils with complex needs and challenging behaviours.
Key Responsibilities
- Build and maintain strong relationships with parents, carers, the local community, and external professionals to support pupil outcomes
- Lead the development, delivery, and monitoring of the School Improvement Plan, setting clear priorities and measurable targets
- Ensure the school meets statutory SEND requirements and delivers high-quality, personalised support
- Provide strategic leadership to sustain high-quality teaching and learning across all subjects and phases
- Promote evidence-informed practice and ensure staff understand how pupils with additional needs learn best
- Manage staffing, finance, and resources effectively, ensuring compliance with statutory duties
- Take full responsibility for the school’s financial performance, including budgeting and value-for-money decision making
- Create a positive and safe school culture where pupils feel respected, included, and motivated to achieve
- Maintain outstanding safeguarding practices and ensure all statutory requirements are met
Requirements
✅ Proven leadership experience within a special school or complex educational setting
✅ Passionate and committed to supporting pupils with SEND
✅ QTS or QTLS qualification
✅ Strong knowledge of the Ofsted Independent School Inspection Framework and safeguarding responsibilities
✅ Ability to inspire and lead a diverse team, modelling professional conduct and high expectations
✅ Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with staff, pupils, parents, and external agencies
✅ Strong strategic planning ability with experience implementing school improvement initiatives
✅ Commitment to the Nolan Principles and the highest professional standards
✅ Robust understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures
