About the Role
Joneshouse Recruitment is recruiting for a dedicated Tutor to join a specialist independent school in Bishops Stortford, supporting pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
This is a rewarding opportunity to help children and young people achieve their potential within a supportive and therapeutic learning environment. All pupils have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP), with personalised learning tailored to meet their individual needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver engaging, differentiated lessons to meet individual learning needs.
- Support pupils using calm, therapeutic, and relationship-based behaviour strategies.
- Create a safe, structured, and nurturing classroom environment.
- Monitor pupil wellbeing and identify any safeguarding concerns.
- Work collaboratively with the SENCO, therapists, social workers, and families.
- Assess, record, and report on pupil progress and achievement.
- Use assessment data to set aspirational targets and plan effective learning activities.
- Support pupils to develop confidence, independence, and positive outcomes.
Requirements
Essential
- Experience working with children or young people with SEMH, SEN, or ASD.
- Strong communication and organisational skills.
- A patient, resilient, and nurturing approach.
- Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
Desirable
- GCSE (or Level 2 equivalent) in English and Maths.
- Previous experience within a specialist education or alternative provision setting.
