Location: Bedford, Kempston

Salary:

  • 24.5-hour shift (including sleep-in): £355.25 per shift (£14.50 per hour)
  • 14-hour shift: £203.00 per shift (£14.50 per hour)
  • 11-hour waking night shift: £181.50 per shift (£16.50 per hour)

Hours: Flexible shift pattern including days, waking nights, sleep-ins, weekends and bank holidays.

About the Role

Joneshouse Recruitment is recruiting for a dedicated Residential Support Worker to join an Ofsted-regulated children’s home in Bedford.

This is a rewarding opportunity to support children and young people in a safe, nurturing, and therapeutic environment. You’ll play a key role in promoting their emotional wellbeing, helping them achieve positive outcomes, and supporting them to develop independence and confidence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality care and support to children and young people.
  • Lead shifts when required, ensuring the smooth and safe running of the home.
  • Allocate tasks and responsibilities to staff during each shift.
  • Deliver and receive clear shift handovers.
  • Maintain accurate and compliant care records.
  • Support and monitor key worker responsibilities.
  • Administer medication in line with policies and procedures.
  • Respond appropriately to incidents and contribute to reflective practice.
  • Promote safeguarding and ensure children’s welfare is always the priority.
  • Provide guidance and support to colleagues, encouraging good practice.
  • Participate in supervision, training, and ongoing professional development.
  • Work as part of a team to create a stable, positive, and supportive home environment.

Requirements

Essential

  • Full UK Driving Licence.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Understanding of safeguarding, behaviour management, and trauma-informed practice.
  • Commitment to supporting children and young people to achieve positive outcomes.
  • Willingness to develop professionally and progress within residential childcare.

Desirable

  • NVQ Level 3 in Children and Young People’s Workforce (or equivalent).
  • Previous experience working within a children’s residential setting.
