The Role
We are seeking a passionate and experienced Registered Service Manager to oversee one of our 3 bed residential children’s homes in Sheffield. This is a pivotal leadership role focused on maintaining high standards of care, ensuring regulatory compliance, and fostering a culture that supports both young people and staff.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Management
- Provide strong, effective leadership to the staff team, promoting a culture of high performance, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Ensure the home operates in accordance with the Children’s Homes (England) Regulations 2015 and meets the Quality Standards.
- Register and maintain compliance as the Registered Manager with Ofsted, ensuring the service is inspection-ready at all times.
- Lead by example in promoting a child-centred, trauma-informed approach across all aspects of the home.
- Work with The Head of Children’s Service around staff recruitment, induction, supervision, training, and development in line with organisational and regulatory requirements.
Safeguarding & Child Protection
- Ensure the highest standards of safeguarding and child protection are maintained at all times.
- Act as the Designated Safeguarding Lead for the home, ensuring effective reporting, recording, and response procedures.
- Maintain clear and effective risk assessments and behaviour support plans tailored to each young person.
Care Planning & Outcomes
- Ensure each child has a comprehensive, personalised care plan that is regularly reviewed in collaboration with external professionals, families, and the young person.
- Promote positive outcomes in education, health, emotional well-being, and social development.
- Support children to develop life skills for independence and successful transitions into adulthood.
- Work in partnership with Virtual Schools, education providers, and local authorities to ensure all young people have access to full-time, appropriate education provision—whether mainstream, specialist, or alternative settings.
Regulatory Compliance & Quality Assurance
- Monitor and maintain full compliance with Ofsted regulations, Local Authority commissioning expectations, and company policies.
- Prepare for and manage Ofsted inspections, audits, and visits from external stakeholders.
- Conduct regular internal audits and implement actions to address any areas for improvement.
- Write and submit quality reports including Regulation 45 reports and ensure Regulation 44 visits are actioned effectively.
Budget & Resource Management
- Manage the home’s budget efficiently, ensuring financial resources are used effectively and sustainably.
- Ensure the physical environment of the home is safe, well-maintained, and homely.
Relationship Management & Multi-Agency Working
- Build and maintain positive relationships with Local Authorities, families, schools, health services, and other stakeholders.
- Represent the home and company in multi-agency meetings, reviews, and professional networks.
- Respond to emergencies and incidents effectively, including out-of-hours as required.
Staff Development & Culture Building
- Foster a supportive, inclusive, and reflective team culture that promotes staff well-being and retention.
- Implement supervision and appraisal systems that support ongoing professional development and high standards of practice.
- Encourage staff to embrace the values and vision and act as ambassadors for the organisation.
- Promote a diverse staff team that represents the children that we care for.
Essential Criteria
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in a management role within a children’s residential setting
- Level 5 Diploma in Leadership & Management for Residential Childcare (or equivalent) or willingness to work towards this.
- Proven track record with Ofsted.
- Strong understanding of safeguarding and child protection frameworks
- Excellent leadership, communication, and staff development skills
- A child-centred, outcomes-driven approach
- Flexibility to work outside standard hours, including on-call
Desirable
- Experience supporting young people with emotional, behavioural or mental health needs
- Therapeutic or trauma-informed care training
- Experience of service design and development
