About the Role

Joneshouse Recruitment is currently recruiting for an experienced Deputy Manager to join a dedicated team within an Ofsted-registered children’s home.

Working closely with the Registered Manager, you will play a key role in the day-to-day management of the home, supporting the team to deliver high-quality, person-centred care and positive outcomes for young people.

You will help ensure the home maintains a safe, nurturing environment while meeting all relevant regulatory, safeguarding and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Operational Management

  • Support the Registered Manager with the leadership, supervision and development of the residential care team.
  • Deputise for the Registered Manager in their absence and take responsibility for the day-to-day running of the home when required.
  • Assist with shift rotas, staffing and emergency cover.
  • Oversee the implementation and review of care plans, risk assessments and placement plans.
  • Conduct regular staff supervisions and contribute to performance management and annual appraisals.
  • Promote a positive culture of continuous improvement and high standards of care.

Quality Assurance & Compliance

  • Support the Registered Manager with Ofsted inspections, Regulation 44 visits and internal compliance audits.
  • Ensure records, documentation and incident reports are accurate, up to date and compliant with relevant regulations and standards.
  • Monitor and maintain high standards of health and safety, fire safety and hygiene throughout the home.
  • Support the implementation and monitoring of action plans following inspections, audits and reviews.

Safeguarding & Multi-Agency Working

  • Take an active role in safeguarding and respond appropriately to any child protection concerns.
  • Work collaboratively with social workers, local authorities, schools, healthcare professionals, families and other external agencies.
  • Advocate for young people and ensure their views, wishes and feelings are represented during reviews, meetings and planning processes.
  • Promote the welfare, safety and development of every young person in the home.

Person Specification

Essential Requirements

  • Level 3 Diploma for Residential Childcare, or equivalent Level 3 NVQ/QCF in Health & Social Care – Children & Young People.
  • Full, clean UK driving licence.
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience working within a residential children’s home.
  • Previous experience as a Senior Residential Childcare Worker, Shift Leader or Deputy Manager.
  • Experience supervising and supporting residential care teams.
  • Strong understanding of safeguarding procedures and the Ofsted Quality Standards.
  • Knowledge of the Children’s Homes (England) Regulations 2015.
  • Strong leadership, communication and conflict-resolution skills.
  • Excellent written, administrative and IT skills.
  • Ability to manage challenging behaviours with resilience and professionalism.
  • Strong personal boundaries and professional integrity.

Desirable Requirements

  • Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare, or willingness to work towards this.
  • Experience supporting Ofsted inspections and Regulation 44 visits.
  • Knowledge of local social care services and networks across Leicestershire.
  • Experience contributing to service development and continuous improvement.
