The Opportunity
Joneshouse Recruitment is seeking an experienced and motivated Deputy Homes Manager to support the leadership of a children’s residential home in Harlow.
This is an excellent opportunity for a Senior Residential Support Worker or Deputy Manager looking to step into a leadership role, supporting the Registered Manager in delivering high-quality, child-centred care for young people with complex needs.
You will play a key role in the day-to-day management, safeguarding, and development of the service, ensuring the home operates in line with Children’s Homes (England) Regulations 2015 and Ofsted Quality Standards.
About the Role
As Deputy Homes Manager, you will work closely with the Registered Manager to ensure the home provides a safe, structured, and nurturing environment.
You will support staff development, maintain compliance, and ensure that young people receive holistic, person-centred care that promotes positive outcomes and independence.
You will also take responsibility for the home in the absence of the Registered Manager.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Management

Support the Registered Manager in the day-to-day running of the home

Act as a positive and approachable role model for the staff team

Ensure consistent delivery of care plans across the team

Support staff induction, supervision, and annual appraisals
-
Assist in managing staff performance and promoting professional standards

Support rota planning to ensure appropriate staffing levels
Operational & Home Management

Maintain compliance with Children’s Homes (England) Regulations 2015 and Ofsted standards

Support budget management, including oversight of resources and petty cash
-
Ensure the home maintains a safe, clean, and homely environment
-
Monitor health and safety standards and ensure maintenance issues are addressed
Care Planning & Safeguarding

Oversee and review care plans, ensuring they are up to date and person-centred
-
Support young people to have a voice in decisions affecting their care

Identify and manage risks relating to behaviour, emotional needs, and wellbeing
-
Ensure safe management of medication and home finances
-
Support compliance with all safeguarding and statutory requirements
External Partnerships

Build and maintain positive relationships with social workers, local authorities, families, and external professionals

Support the reporting of significant incidents to Ofsted and relevant authorities within required timescales

Assist in recruitment processes, ensuring safe and effective hiring practices
Person Specification
Essential
-
Minimum 2 years’ experience in a children’s residential setting
-
Experience in a senior or supervisory role
-
Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare
-
Willingness to work towards a Level 5 Diploma in Leadership & Management
-
Strong understanding of Ofsted Quality Standards and safeguarding procedures
-
Excellent communication, leadership, and organisational skills
