Location: Sunderland (SR2)

Salary: £40,000 – £43,000 per annum

Contract Type: Full-Time, Permanent

Qualification Required: Minimum Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare (or equivalent)

About the Role

• Support the Registered Manager in the day-to-day operations of an Ofsted-registered children’s home

• Ensure all care delivery meets Ofsted standards and the home’s Statement of Purpose

• Split duties between direct floor support (1–2 days/week) and office-based leadership

• Lead and mentor a team of Residential Childcare Workers

• Promote a positive, professional, and child-centred culture

• Ensure compliance, safeguarding, and high-quality care delivery

Key Responsibilities

• Deputise for the Registered Manager in their absence

• Lead, supervise, and develop the staff team

• Contribute to care planning, placement reviews, and safeguarding practices

• Manage rotas, supervision, and training

• Oversee administrative and regulatory compliance

• Participate in on-call duties on a rota basis

• Build strong relationships with professionals, families, and local authorities

• Act as a visible, active leader both on the floor and in the office

Requirements

• Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare (or equivalent)

• Working towards or willing to complete Level 5 Diploma in Leadership & Management

• Previous experience in a children’s residential setting (Senior or Team Leader level preferred)

• Strong understanding of Ofsted regulations, safeguarding, and therapeutic childcare

• Excellent leadership, communication, and organisational skills

• Passion for improving outcomes for children and young people
