About the Role

Joneshouse Recruitment is currently recruiting for a Domestic Abuse Outreach Project Worker – Children & Young People to support children and young people who have experienced or are experiencing domestic abuse across Fareham and Gosport.

This is a rewarding role focused on helping children and young people feel safe, supported and empowered to make positive choices. You will provide a combination of 1:1 support, advocacy, family work, group sessions, workshops and community-based outreach, working with children living both in refuge accommodation and within the wider community.

You will also work closely with parents, schools, social care, police, health services and other professionals to ensure children and young people receive the right support and opportunities to thrive.

Key Responsibilities

Supporting Children & Young People

  • Provide practical, emotional and therapeutic support to children and young people affected by domestic abuse.
  • Deliver 1:1 support, group work and workshops in refuge, schools, community settings and other appropriate locations.
  • Develop individual safety plans and help children and young people understand how to keep themselves safe.
  • Support children and young people to understand and process the impact of witnessing domestic abuse.
  • Explore healthy relationships, emotional wellbeing, confidence and positive choices.
  • Provide age-appropriate structured and free-play activities, including holiday activities.
  • Support children and young people to access and maintain education.
  • Work with schools to improve attendance and reduce the risk of exclusion.
  • Provide advocacy and ensure the voices, wishes and needs of children and young people are heard.
  • Support families moving on from refuge accommodation and help children settle into the community.
  • Identify behaviours that may place children or young people at increased risk and provide appropriate interventions.
  • Support children and young people to develop healthy ways of managing emotions, anger and difficult situations.
  • Promote positive relationships between children and young people and encourage peer support.

Family & Parenting Support

  • Work alongside parents to identify and address the individual needs of their children.
  • Support parents in developing positive and healthy parent-child relationships.
  • Provide practical and emotional support to families living in refuge accommodation.
  • Offer advice and information to parents regarding available services and support.
  • Support families to access appropriate accommodation and community services where required.

Partnership Working

  • Build and maintain effective relationships with statutory and voluntary organisations.
  • Work closely with social care, education, health, police, community safety teams and specialist domestic abuse services.
  • Advocate for children and young people with professionals and agencies.
  • Develop relationships with local organisations to raise awareness of domestic abuse and its impact on children and families.
  • Support partner agencies to improve their understanding of domestic abuse and its impact.
  • Attend relevant meetings, events and partnership activities, including occasional evenings and weekends.

Safeguarding

  • Ensure the welfare and safety of children and young people remains at the centre of all work.
  • Recognise and respond appropriately to safeguarding and child protection concerns.
  • Follow relevant safeguarding legislation, local procedures and organisational policies.
  • Complete appropriate risk assessments for home visits and meetings in neutral locations.
  • Follow lone-working policies and procedures.
  • Maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality at all times.

Administration & Case Management

  • Maintain accurate and timely case records, both electronically and in paper format where required.
  • Manage your own caseload effectively and complete regular case reviews.
  • Prepare accurate reports, case studies and other relevant documentation.
  • Maintain confidential records in accordance with data protection and information-sharing requirements.
  • Contribute to monitoring, evaluation and service development.
  • Complete administrative tasks relating to the delivery of the service.
  • Attend supervision, training, team meetings and other professional development opportunities.
  • Deliver presentations and provide information to local agencies where required.

On-Call Responsibilities

The successful candidate will participate in an out-of-hours on-call rota as part of a 24/7 service.

Responsibilities may include:

  • Responding to emergencies outside normal service hours.
  • Attending refuge accommodation when required.
  • Providing emergency safety advice.
  • Supporting families accessing refuge accommodation.
  • Processing emergency referrals.
  • Providing telephone support to individuals and professionals.
  • Supporting clients to access appropriate refuge accommodation.

When undertaking on-call duties, you must be available for work and have access to a suitable vehicle.

Person Specification

Essential Requirements

  • Experience supporting vulnerable children and young people, particularly those experiencing stress or trauma.
  • Ability to work at NVQ Level 3 or equivalent.
  • Experience facilitating support groups and targeted group work.
  • Experience developing and delivering projects or services for children and young people.
  • Experience taking responsibility for projects or specific areas of work, including developing and implementing work plans.
  • Experience working with people from diverse backgrounds, including those experiencing disadvantage or deprivation.
  • Good understanding of child protection and safeguarding.
  • Understanding of safe lone-working practices.
  • Strong understanding of confidentiality and information sharing.
  • Ability to use reflective listening with empathy and respect.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to quickly establish rapport with children, young people and families.
  • Ability to work constructively with parents and children to strengthen relationships.
  • Commitment to empowering children and young people.
  • Strong commitment to equality, diversity and anti-oppressive practice.
  • Ability to manage your own caseload and prioritise competing demands.
  • Good organisational, literacy, numeracy and IT skills.
  • Experience facilitating groups.
  • Good presentation skills.
  • Ability to work flexibly, including some evenings, weekends and on-call duties.
  • Ability to work independently, use initiative and solve problems effectively.
  • Ability to work positively as part of a team.
  • Full UK driving licence, access to a car and appropriate business insurance.
  • Enhanced DBS clearance will be required.
