About the Role

Joneshouse Recruitment is seeking a practical and compassionate Domestic Abuse Outreach Worker – Home Safety Specialist to support individuals and families affected by domestic abuse across Southampton.

This unique community-based role focuses on improving the safety and security of victims and survivors by delivering practical home security solutions, often referred to as target hardening. You’ll work closely with clients to help them remain safely in their homes while reducing the risk of further harm.

Alongside providing practical safety measures, you’ll offer advocacy, guidance and emotional support, working with a range of partner agencies to help individuals rebuild their lives with confidence.

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out home safety assessments based on individual risk.
• Arrange and coordinate security improvements to make homes safer.
• Install or organise practical safety measures, including additional locks, security lighting, smoke alarms, window alarms and video doorbells.
• Work closely with landlords, housing providers and partner agencies to improve client safety.
• Provide one-to-one practical support, advice and advocacy.
• Support clients to access relevant services and community resources.
• Complete safeguarding and risk assessments where required.
• Maintain accurate and confidential case records.
• Work independently within the community while managing your own workload.
• Build positive relationships with external agencies to ensure clients receive coordinated support.

We’re looking for someone who is practical, organised and passionate about supporting vulnerable people to live safely and independently.

Essential Requirements

• Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.
• Experience using hand and power tools safely.
• Experience working within clients’ homes.
• Experience supporting vulnerable adults or families.
• Knowledge of safeguarding and child protection procedures.
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
• Good IT, literacy and numeracy skills.
• Ability to manage your own workload and prioritise effectively.
• Understanding of the impact domestic abuse has on individuals and families.

Desirable

• Experience delivering home security or target hardening projects.
• Knowledge of housing and homelessness issues.
• Experience working within multi-agency partnerships.
• Health and Safety training.
