Shift Patterns:

  • Day: 8:00am – 6:00pm (1 weekend per month)

  • Sleep-in: 6:00pm – 8:00am

  • Sleep Period: 10:00pm – 8:00am (2 per week)

Joneshouse Recruitment is seeking dedicated Residential Support Workers to join an OFSTED-regulated children’s residential service supporting young people aged 16–18 as they transition from care into independent or semi-independent living.

This role is ideal for caring, resilient, and committed individuals who are passionate about preparing young people for adulthood by building life skills, confidence, and emotional resilience.

You will work as part of a supportive team to create a safe, structured, and aspirational environment where young people can develop the skills needed to move successfully into independence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide day-to-day support, guidance, and emotional encouragement to young people aged 16–18

  • Support development of independent living skills including budgeting, cooking, self-care, and managing appointments

  • Act as a positive role model, promoting healthy boundaries and routines

  • Encourage engagement in education, training, employment, and community activities

  • Support young people through their transition from care with confidence and stability

  • Assist with behaviour support using trauma-informed and de-escalation approaches

  • Maintain a safe, nurturing, and structured environment

  • Follow care plans, risk assessments, and pathway plans

  • Accurately record daily notes, incidents, progress, and safeguarding concerns

  • Work collaboratively with colleagues and external professionals

  • Promote safeguarding, wellbeing, and young people’s rights at all times

  • Provide appropriate overnight support during sleep-in shifts when required


Shift Pattern

  • Day shifts: 8:00am – 6:00pm

  • Sleep-in shifts: 6:00pm – 8:00am

  • Sleep period: 10:00pm – 8:00am

  • Rotas provided in advance to support work-life balance


Essential Requirements

  • Genuine passion for supporting young people transitioning into independence

  • Ability to work shifts, including sleep-ins, weekends, and bank holidays

  • Understanding of safeguarding and professional boundaries

  • Resilience, empathy, and ability to remain calm under pressure

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to work effectively within a team

  • Willingness to undertake ongoing training and development

  • Full UK driving licence (preferred or essential depending on service needs)


Desirable

  • Experience working with care-experienced young people or in residential/supported living settings

  • Level 3 Diploma in Children’s Residential Care (or willingness to work towards)

  • Knowledge of trauma-informed practice, attachment, and behaviour support
